Melbourne Airport liquids and security rules
Flying from Melbourne? Here is what Melbourne Airport states about liquids and electronics in hand luggage.
100 ml limit
On international departures from Terminal 2, liquids, aerosols and gels must be 100 ml or less per container and the bag holding them goes in a tray, along with any powders. Melbourne's CT scanning lanes mean laptops can now stay inside your carry-on.

What this means at Melbourne Airport
- Airport states: place your bag of liquid, aerosol and gel items in the tray (departing T2 international only).
- Airport states: laptops can now remain in your carry-on baggage at Terminal 2 International, where CT X-ray technology lanes are in use.
- Note the airport's own luggage page still carries the older line that you must remove laptop computers from your bag; the security screening page is the more recent guidance, so allow for either instruction on the day.
- Airport states: LAGs may only be taken in carry-on luggage if they are in containers no more than 100 mL in size.
- Any containers of powders go in a separate tray on T2 international departures.
- Exemptions apply for medicines, medical products, medical devices and baby products needed during the journey, and a reasonable quantity of baby or infant liquids and powders is allowed on international flights.
- The one-litre transparent resealable bag detail is not given on the airport page; the Department of Home Affairs rule is one transparent resealable bag per passenger whose four sealed sides total no more than 80 cm.
- Duty-free liquid rules are not stated on the security screening page.
