United Airlines hand luggage rules

• United publishes its limits in inches (9 in x 14 in x 22 in carry-on; 9 in x 10 in x 17 in personal item), giving 23 x 35 x 56 cm and 22 x 25 x 43 cm as its own metric equivalents; the cm values in this record are converted from the published inches.
• Carry-on measurements must "include the handle and wheels".
• Basic Economy passengers who are MileagePlus Premier members, travelling with a Premier member, primary card members of a qualifying MileagePlus credit card, or Star Alliance Gold members may bring one free carry-on bag (the United Gateway Card and MileagePlus Select Card do not qualify).
• Small purses or bags are not allowed in addition to the personal item and carry-on.
• Free additional items: jacket or coat, umbrella, reading material, food or items bought at the airport, mobility devices, a car seat/child safety harness/stroller, a diaper bag and breast pump (even when not travelling with the child), and a camera.
• On United Express flights operated by CommutAir only one personal item is allowed; other United Express carriers allow carry-on bags but have limited space.
• No carry-on weight limit is stated.
• Powders: TSA recommends checking them, but up to 12 ounces (350 ml) may be carried on domestic U.S. flights.
• Smart bags must have their lithium batteries removed before boarding.

Liquids

TSA rules: liquids, gels and sprays allowed in carry-on in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 ml), placed inside a quart-size clear, sealable bag.
