Flying from Malta? The verdict, the airport's own wording and its source link are below. Checked 16 October 2026 against the airport's own website. Same rules for hand luggage and carry-on.

What this means at Malta International Airport
- The airport states passengers departing from Malta International Airport are now permitted to carry liquids up to a maximum of a 2-litre container per hand luggage, as well as electronic devices, without the need for removal at the central security checkpoint.
- Liquid containers of up to 2 litres are allowed in hand luggage without having to be removed or placed in plastic bags.
- Liquid containers larger than 2 litres may only be taken in hand luggage if they are empty; otherwise they must go in checked luggage.
- Laptops, tablets and other large electrical items are to be kept in the luggage.
- Baby food and drinks are allowed only if travelling with a baby or infant (aged 0-24 months); liquid medicines over the allowance only where necessary for the journey, with proof such as a prescription or doctor's letter.
- Duty-free liquids bought at the airport must stay sealed in a security bag with the receipt.
- The airport warns that the 100 ml restriction has not been uniformly lifted across all EU airports, so check your destination airport for your return journey.
- The airport's own help centre repeats the 2-litre wording. Its older government security pages still describe 100 ml, which is why we link the airport's current hand luggage page.

Another official Maltese page says something different. The Malta aviation security department's Security Screening page still describes the 100 ml rule: containers of no more than 100 ml in a single transparent 1-litre bag, taken out of hand luggage at security. It also says laptops and tablets must be removed. We checked it on 31 October 2026 and it is not dated. The airport's own page above is the more specific answer for departures from Malta International Airport, but the two pages disagree, so if you are unsure, follow the instruction given at the security checkpoint. The airport itself warns that the 100 ml limit has not been lifted at all EU airports, so check your destination airport for the return.
Security rules are set by the airport, but your bag size is set by your airline. Check your bag against every airline here.
