Do you need an NZeTA to visit New Zealand?

The short answer

Immigration New Zealand says some travellers can use an NZeTA instead of a visa. It costs from NZD 17, is valid for 2 years, and allows stays of up to 3 months each visit, or 6 months for UK citizens.

Who can get one

You may get an NZeTA if you are a citizen of a visa waiver country or territory, a cruise ship passenger, an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or transiting. Most travellers need either an NZeTA or a visa.

Each family member needs their own NZeTA. The online form is one request per person. The NZeTA app is cheaper and allows up to 10 people at once. Allow 72 hours for a decision.

Rules you must meet

You must be in good health, of good character, a genuine visitor, and plan to leave.

On arrival

Everyone entering New Zealand must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration. By air you can submit it from 24 hours before your journey begins.

At check-in carry your passport, NZeTA confirmation email and proof of travel out. The official page says the exact fee is shown after you enter your country details, so check the official site before you pay or travel.
