Can you take scissors in hand luggage?
It depends on the blades. GOV.UK says small scissors with blades no longer than 6 cm are allowed in hand luggage, round-ended or blunt scissors are allowed, and large scissors with blades longer than 6 cm are not.
Scissors in hand luggage and hold luggage (UK)
| Item | Hand luggage | Hold luggage |
|---|---|---|
| Small scissors (blades no longer than 6cm) | Yes | Yes |
| Round-ended or blunt scissors | Yes | Yes |
| Large scissors (blades longer than 6cm) | No | Yes (check with your airline) |
GOV.UK gives the limit as a blade length of 6 cm. Airport security staff have the final say.
Airport security staff can refuse anything they consider dangerous, even if it is normally allowed, and your airline may add its own limits, so check with your airline if you are unsure. Other countries have their own rules, so check the rules at your destination and any connecting airports too.
