Can you take a hoverboard on a plane?

The short answer

Rules differ. TSA says to check with your airline and that hoverboards are allowed through the checkpoint. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) says they are not allowed in a checked bag or in the cabin.

TSA

TSA lists hoverboards as "check with airline" for both carry-on and checked bags, and says they are allowed through the checkpoint. The airline decides.

EASA

EASA says hoverboards are not allowed in a checked bag or in the cabin, giving the reason as their batteries having a rating of 100 Wh or more.

What to do

Check your airline before you buy a ticket. On flights to or from Europe, assume you cannot bring one.
