Belfast International Airport liquids and security rules

Flying from Belfast? Here is what Belfast International Airport states about liquids and electronics in hand luggage.

Belfast International still applies the 100 ml container limit, but since late 2024 liquids and electronic devices can stay inside your hand luggage and no clear plastic bag is required.

What this means at Belfast International Airport

  • Airport states: 'The liquid is in a container that is 100ml or less.'
  • Airport states: 'There is only ONE transparent 1 litre bag per passenger' and 'The transparent 1 litre bag must be sealed.'
  • Airport states liquids must be 'presented separately at the x-ray point'.
  • Airport states: 'Laptops, tablets or electronic devices need to be taken out of your hand luggage and placed in a tray.'
  • Security FAQs confirm: 'Restrictions are still in place regarding the carrying of liquids, gels and pastes in your hand luggage.'
  • Baby milk in containers over 100ml that is essential for the journey can be carried but must be presented separately to security staff to be individually verified.
  • Baby milk products up to 100ml must be placed in a clear resealable plastic bag no greater than 1 litre.
  • Body scanners use millimetre wave technology and do not produce an image of the person scanned.
  • No new/CT/C3 scanner rollout is claimed anywhere on the airport's security pages.
  • Note: the airport's own website contradicts itself. A legacy security page still describes the old routine (one sealed 1-litre clear bag presented separately, laptops out into a tray), while its current guidance says liquids under 100 ml and electronics stay in the bag. Allow extra time and be ready for either.
