Berlin Brandenburg Airport liquid rules: Depends on the lane
Flying from Berlin? The verdict, the airport's own wording and its source link are below. Checked 27 October 2026 against the airport's own website. Same rules for hand luggage and carry-on.
At BER the rule depends on the security area. CT-scanner areas take containers of up to 2 litres with no resealable bag; the conventional X-ray areas still apply 100 ml per container in a 1-litre bag. BER itself recommends packing to the 100 ml rule because you cannot predict which checkpoint you will use.
| Liquid container limit | Depends on the lane |
| Clear plastic bag needed | Only at conventional X-ray lanes |
| Liquids can stay in your bag | CT lanes only |
| Laptops can stay in your bag | CT lanes only |
What this means at Berlin Brandenburg Airport
- BER's page says the CT scanners are at security areas 1 and 5 in Terminal 1 and at the Terminal 2 security area; areas 2 and 4 in Terminal 1 still have conventional X-ray systems.
- At the CT scanners: "Liquid containers with a capacity of up to 2 litres may be carried in your hand baggage." "Please note: double-walled containers (such as insulated flasks) should be empty."
- At the CT scanners: "Electronic devices can also remain in your hand baggage."
- At the conventional X-ray areas: "Please dispose of liquid containers larger than 100ml", and "Place electronic devices individually in the tray".
- Conventional areas: a 1-litre bag with containers of at most 100 ml each, "Only one transparent, resealable bag per person".
- BER's notice: "since it is not possible to predict which security checkpoint you will pass through, we still recommend following the general rule (maximum 100 ml per container in a 1-liter bag) to ensure a smooth screening process".
- Liquid medicines and liquid special food needed during the flight are exceptions; BER says the need may have to be documented with a doctor's certificate.
